Travel & Food Logistics
A reservation is required to drive into Yosemite during the summer 2024 season.
Reservation period: A vehicle reservation will be required for entry during the following days in 2024:
April 13 – June 30: Weekends only, including holidays.
July 1 – August 16: Daily
August 17 – October 27: Weekend only, including Monday holidays.
You may also hire a guide or enter free with the bus.
Airports
The most common airports for travel to Yosemite (and drive time to/from Moonstone Retreat:
Fresno nearest airport for domestic flights (2 hrs)
Sacramento medium international airport (3.25 hrs)
Oakland 3rd largest international airport in Bay Area (3.25 hrs)
San Jose 2nd largest international airport in Bay Area (3.5 hrs)
San Francisco largest international airport in Bay Area (3.5 hrs)
Reno only for summer travel (5 hrs drive)
Other Options:
Merced nearest airport for regional travel. This is a very small airport that is used for people traveling and commuting from the Bay Area, LA, and Las Vegas. (1.5 hrs)
Modesto small domestic airport (2 hrs)
Mariposa the nearest airport for small private planes (45 minutes)
Driving Directions
We recommend saving a screenshot or PDF of these directions onto your phone and/or printing out directions. There is not always reception in the Sierra Foothills, especially in the Merced River Canyon.
Highway140 is the most accessible all-season road into Yosemite National Park.

Purchase Groceries in Advance
With limited availability of healthy foods, we highly recommend that you do all of your grocery shopping in Mariposa before you drive to Moonstone Retreat.

Note about Restaurants
Most restaurants are at least 45 minutes away on mountain roads. We recommend planning ahead to enjoy your meals at the Moonstone or pack a picnic.
